BUTTER Fine Art Fair is North America’s equitable art fair, anchored in Indianapolis and advocating for the care and economic viability of Black, visual artists.
Known for its energy, BUTTER has become a place for the powerful and positive transformation of artist’ mindset and careers, visiting audiences, sectors, cities and the art industry at large. The place where you can be yourself, BUTTER is a multi-day fine art fair organized by GANGGANG to feature artwork made by Black visual artists from Indiana and across the country. GANGGANG is a creative advocacy agency that works to center beauty, culture and equity in systems and cities. Tactics like BUTTER are considered innovative experiments toward their testing for new equitable models.
Put into the spotlight by the New York Times in 2022 as a blueprint for equity in the arts in America, BUTTER works to be a context worthy of the art it exhibits. It works to loan or sell 100% of the fair’s artworks and offer 100% of sales profit to the artist.

IMU adds three new paintings by Black artists to art collection for diversity initiative
Three new paintings by Black artists were unveiled in the Indiana Memorial Union on November 28 as part of an initiative to expand the IMU’s art collection with contemporary works more representative of IU’s population.
The new paintings include “Glorious Day” by India Cruse-Griffin, which is displayed in the South Lounge, “Reasons” by Kyng-Rhodes, displayed across from the dining area and “Empowered Tresses” by Tasha Beckwith, displayed outside of the Georgian Room. Read More…
Cruse Griffin Art in the Reid Health Art Collection
What began as child’s play with torn up magazines is now a style of award-winning art for Richmond native India Cruse-Griffin.
Through her work, Griffin celebrates women and her ancestry. Her mixed media collage images, alive with bold colors, shapes and patterns, tell stories of love, pride, culture and the spirit of community. The 40″ x 60″ piece is one of the largest commissioned pieces in the Reid art program. Other works by Griffin may be seen in the Administrative Suite on the first floor
